The last time we looked at Wachovia Bank savings account rates, we were interested in how they were changing now that Wells Fargo has taken over Wachovia. Now, we here at Interest Rates Reviews thought we should look again and see how they’ve changed since our last peek.

There are two basic Wachovia savings account rates to choose from. The Wachovia high yield savings or High Performance Money Market and the Wachovia Bank savings account rates for regular savings. We’ll look at the latter first.

Standard Wachovia savings account rates are based on a savings account that requires a $300 minimum balance to maintain without fees. It yields a 0.05% annual percentage yield (APY), which is about what it was last time we looked at Wachovia interest rates. There are several fees attached to this account if you use extra services such as electronic funds transfers (outgoing), ATM withdrawals from non-Wachovia machines, and so forth. You’ll want to be aware of those if you plan to use this account so that you can see how they’ll impact your Wachovia Bank savings account rates overall.

Next are the Wachovia high yield savings available through the Money Market. These have an APY of 0.50% and require a $2,500 minimum balance to avoid fees. There are also charges associated with this account type, depending on extra service options. So be aware that using the ATM, overdraft protection, and every transaction after six will have fees that could impact your Wachovia high yield savings returns.

Both accounts are variable rate accounts. Wachovia Bank is FDIC insured through their owner, Wells Fargo Bank.

It’s been a little while since we reviewed Wachovia Bank savings account rates, so we here at Interest Rates Reviews thought we should do that for you again. There are three basic savings account types at Wachovia, plus certificates of deposit. We’ll look at those savings accounts first.

The Wachovia high yield savings is called a Premium Savings. This account has Wachovia interest rates of 0.05% annual percentage yield (APY) on all balances with a $300 minimum balance required to avoid fees. Alternatively, you can set up an automatic deposit of $25 or more per month to avoid those fees. This account can also be linked with a checking account to become an overdraft protection account.

For more Wachovia high yield savings, the Wachovia savings account rates in the Way2Save offers are 5.00% for the first year, 2.00% for the years after that. These pay out a maximum of $300 and are meant as accounts for children and allow only three withdrawals per month without fees. Perfect for introducing your child to banking.

Of course, Wachovia savings account rates are generally best in a money market account. The Wachovia Bank savings account rates for money markets is 0.65% APY with a $2,500 minimum balance required to avoid service fees. These have no other fees attached to them unless you exceed six out-of-bank transfers in a month.

All three of these accounts are available online or at your local branch. Wachovia Bank is FDIC insured. Wachovia Bank savings account rates are variable and can change any time.

When we last looked at Wachovia Bank savings account rates, the bank had so far made no changes to its accounts after the Wells Fargo takeover. They’ve done so now, though only to change the names of the accounts themselves and a few of the terms. So this, our latest article at Interest Rates Reviews, is to bring you up to date on those changes.

There are still two basic savings account types to look at for Wachovia interest rates: Premium Savings and Money Market accounts. We’ll look at each of these and show you the current Wachovia savings account rates for them.

The Premium account has a $100 minimum to open, but incurs fees on balances under $300. There are three yield tiers for these accounts, leveled by balance total. These tiers have an annual percentage yield (APY) on the following scale:

$0-$24,999 = 0.05% APY

$25,000-$49,999 = 0.10% APY

$50,000+ = 0.15% APY

For the Wachovia high yield savings money market account, the APY is 0.75% regardless of account balance. There is a minimum $2,500 to avoid fees and $1,000 minimum to open. For many, this is the better choice for Wachovia Bank savings account rates payoff.

All accounts at Wachovia are FDIC insured to the fullest extent of the law. These rates change regularly, so be sure to check for the most current Wachovia savings account rates before opening an account.

As you’re probably aware, Wachovia Bank was recently bought out by Wells Fargo, but continues to do business as Wachovia. We here at Interest Rates Reviews wanted to see how Wachovia savings rates have changed since that takeover.

Currently Wachovia savings account types include: Way2Save, a Premium Savings Account, and a High Performance Money Market account. We’ll look at each of these individually and what they offer.

Way2Save is a Wachovia savings account that has an automatic pay-in every time you use your debit card on a Wachovia checking account. These accounts have great Wachovia savings rates, with a whopping 5% annual percentage yield (APY) at the end of the first year and 2% for the next two years. This payout is capped at $300, however.

Another of Wachovia savings rates is in the Premium account. This is a more standard savings account with a minimum balance of $300 to avoid fees. Wachovia Bank interest rates on this Premium plan are tiered according to the account’s balance. Under $25,000 yields 0.05% APY, $25,000-$49,999 yields 0.10% APY and over $50,000 yields 0.15% APY. These accounts can also be linked to auto-desposits for further savings.

The Wachovia Bank money market account (called High Performance) is the best of the group for most savings plans. With a minimum balance of $2,500 to avoid fees, it may not be for everyone, however. The account yields 1.01% APY right now, which are good Wachovia money market rates right now.

While Wachovia bank interest rates are variable and, on Wachovia savings rates like these, they are not fixed, we think it’s worth considering if you’re looking for a Wachovia savings account.
